How we buy

From the legal description to a wired close.

Fort Union buys Bakken minerals as principal. We are not a broker and we do not shop your minerals to a list. If we send an offer, we intend to fund it.

  1. 01

    Send what you have

A county and a legal description will start the file. Net acres, a decimal interest, an operator name, or a royalty check stub make it faster.

  2. 02

    Title and type curve

We build a runsheet, confirm the interest type, and map the tract into current spacing. Remaining Bakken and Three Forks locations are counted from the unit.

  3. 03

    A written cash offer

You get a number, the legal we think we are buying, and the assumptions underneath it. No broker commission and no obligation to sell.

  4. 04

    Close on our dime

We draft the mineral deed, handle tax pro-ration, and record. Typical close is 21 to 45 days. Funds go out by wire when we record.

What to send for a Bakken offer

  • Section, township, and range — or the language off the deed
  • Net mineral acres or the royalty decimal, if you know it
  • Whether you receive a check, and from whom
  • Names of other owners if the interest is split
  • Anything that will show up in title: probate, divorce, liens

Who this is for

Owners who want liquidity. Families settling a McKenzie or Williams estate. Trusts cleaning up a non-core holding.

We do not buy working interests or operate wells.
